60 YEARS ANNIVERSARY OF BANKING ACADEMY

Banking Academy of Vietnam (BAV), formerly known as the School of Advanced Banking, was established on September 13, 1961 under the Decision of the Prime Minister with the main responsibility of training banking staff. On February 9, 1998, the school was renamed as Banking Academy on the basis of the reorganization of the Center of Banking Training and Scientific Research.

1. Mission, Vision, Core Values and Functions

• Mission: Training high quality human resources and doing specialized scientific research in the field of applied economics with a concentration on finance and banking area, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam.
• Vision: By the year 2030, BAV will be among the top 10 best universities in Vietnam and become a multidisciplinary university which meets international standards for academic training and scientific research. The quality of the Academy's students is measured by their ability to adapt and devote themselves upon entering the labor market.
• Core Values: Creativity – Responsibility – Dedication – Respect – Cooperation
• Function:
  • Educate and foster human resources at college, university and post-graduate levels
  • Scientific research in the fields of economics, finance - banking and other disciplines and disciplines prescribed by competent authorities.

3. International Co-operation 

From the establishment until now, BAV has built various cooperative relationships and partnerships with universities from many countries such as: the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, Laos, Russia, Singapore, German, Netherland, China, etc. with the purposes of improving the quality of education and scientific research, creating opportunities for students to access many international training programs as well as promoting BAV’s image on the global basis.

• Master Programme of Finance (University of West England, UK)
• International Professional Accountant Programme (ICAEW & ACCA, UK).

Until the present time, BAV has undergone 60 years of establishment and development, and nowadays, it has become a multi-disciplinary university with career-application orientation; which meets international standards to become the leading university in the field of finance and banking in Vietnam in both education and scientific research activities. BAV currently offers 7 disciplines including: Finance & Banking, Accounting & Auditing, Business Administration, International Business, Management Information Systems, English for Finance & Banking and Economic Law, with nearly 600 lecturers highly qualified in the specialized fields. BAV attracts 20,000 students annually at all levels from undergraduate to postgraduate.

Besides academic training, BAV has also organized and developed many extracurricular activities for students and lecturers with the aim of enhancing soft skills and motivating the communication as well as solidarity among members of the university. The notable activities include Sport Competitions, Singing and Dancing Contests, Photograhy Contest, Teambuilding activities, Blood Donation, Charity movements. These activities are also attached with the development of various academic, sport and art clubs such as Blue Wings, Accounting-Auditing, Scientific Research, Basketball, Photography, English, Performance… and unions from all faculties.

In addition, in recent years, BAV has strongly developed international cooperation training activities through exchange of teachers and students as well as training association with many prestigious universities across the world such as University of Sunderland (UK), City University of Seattle (US), University of Birmingham (UK), University of the West of England (UK), etc. These activities also include the organizing of many international scientific conferences that BAV has enthusiastically participated in as a member as well as the host.

Over the past 60 years, BAV has trained hundreds of thousands of studentss in all education systems. With the purpose of education associated with the development of professional skills and creativity in handling situations, BAV's training products are increasingly well-recognized in the labor market. Graduates from BAV have been the main resources in the system of banking, finance and other national economic areas. Many of these graduates have become scientists, managers and leading experts in the fields of finance, banking, accounting, economics,…. in a variety of domestic and foreign enterprises. Throughout the history of the university, the scientific research, policy consultancy and technology transfer activities of BAV have created a motivation to improve the quality of education and effectively contribute to the Vietnam economy.
